Nova Stilo: Introducing Nova

Hello beautiful people and thanks for stopping by! This post is to introduce Nova, a new style of Esperanto that tries to address the most common criticisms to this most widespread of conlangs.

If you know Esperanto or of it, you may know it has been spoken by millions of people (literally) for over a hundred years. It is a marvelous invention that stood the test of time, with a rich culture of writing and song, with a vibrant community of people the world over.

A hundred years after its inception, the use of language has changed a lot. English has taken over from French as the international language, the Internet has made all writing shorter and more people write every day. Nova is a style of Esperanto that is suited for the needs of the 21st century.

How is it different? Here is a series of articles in English, Esperanto, and Nova that explain what’s changed. A brief summary:

There is a new way of spelling using only the letters of the English alphabet, one that doesn't require special characters but only the letters A to Z
Grammatical stumbling blocks like the accusative, articles, and agreement in numbers are optional
The best ideas of Esperanto, the table of correlatives and the extensive use of regular affixes, are expanded
Gender expression is made simpler, more regular, and neutral
Language neutrality and growth is enabled by allowing for perfect synonyms from languages other than the European sources of Esperanto
